sharpening advice needed!!

Hi there, i have bought myself a mini lathe, the sieg SC2 to be precise,
my old engineering neighbour has given a load of hss blanks that i will need to shape and sharpen, i have a very pathetic grinder which just stops when you touch it, so after a bit of research i have noticed that people use belt sanders like clarkes £60 bench top sander,

i like the idea of buying one of these as for me it would have many uses,

whats your advice on this matter,

Many thanks in advance

Nic

A belt sander will work but not a good as a grinder with a hard stone grinding wheel...Bob

A belt sander is good for a touch up but regular bench grinder is better to make the shape...Bob
