build using an Savage Edge? good/bad?

Great deals out there on the Savage Edge. What do you guys think about using that for a platform for a 300 Whisper variant. I am specifically looking at soing a 300 blackout.
Thanks

I would go with a Stevens 200 if you are trying to stay on a budget. The Edge/Axis is long action only and doesn't have nearly the same support for aftermarket stocks or other parts.

They do have short actions actually, its not the edge anymore, now its the axis.

So axis is better than the edge due to short action?

Right you are Titleii. I stand corrected...

Rover, the Axis is now both long and short action. It's really not a huge difference but the short action is a better fit for this cartridge. From the little bit of research that I did it appears that the triggers are the same but the stocks are different and until an aftermarket manufacturer make an Axis stock you are stuck with the one they give you. Also the Axis was designed solely with a low price point in mind, the Stevens is a proven (Savage 10/110) action with aftermarket parts support. My 300BLK will be a Stevens, hopefully next week sometime.

Thanks guys ... I'm going to go with the proven product. Don't know what I was thinking I want it to have the same ergo's as my long range gun. Ordering a SA model this next week. Thanks

Well we are talking about a real short case, sometimes they fall off the boltface.

Cutting a case from 1.76 to 1.355 will cause the case to push farther out causing it to fall off the boltface and into the action sometimes on savage and remingtons, dunno about the edge/axis, you just may wana check.

from what I have gleaned from the Savageshooters.com forum, the edge/axis (trademark infringement on the edge name) uses the same barrels as the 10/110 and the same modular bolt face as the 10/110 so there is some parts commonality.
I have also seen it mentioned to modify/remove the ejector spring on the bolt face,& possibly tweat the extractor for a better grip, the usual fit is a slightly larger ball bearing on the detent for the extractor
