How fast can you push a whisper?

How fast are people seeing with the various weights below (supersonic)

125
150/155
168
175
200

With a 300 AAC BLACKOUT 20 inch barrel I pushed a 110 Sierra to 2720 fps before popping a primer. I backed it down to 2550 for the rest of my loads. I have not actually pressure tested it though.

Note: 300 Whisper(R) has a shorter throat and as such you typically would not get as much velocity as with 300 AAC BLACKOUT for any given amount of chamber pressure.

I'm thinking and hoping that there might be something that makes Major Power factor - prefereably with a 168gr pill as I have 10k + of them

Wow. Must be some fast powder. With VV-N110, if I cram 17 grains in the case and crunch it down with the bullet, I get ~2200 fps out of my 18" bolt gun. You don't have to give out the exact load recipe, but where does this powder fall in the burn rate charts if you don't mind me asking?

H-110 powder.

The extra velocity comes from the 300 AAC BLACKOUT chamber.

With the longer throat of the Blackout, the bullet travels further before it fully engages the rifling allowing for a easier pressure spike. Kinda like some of the Weatherby chambers from way back when. Or even like 5.56 chambers compared to 223 chambers.

I found a couple of loads in 168gr range that will make major power factor - anyone else got any 16x loads to share?

rsilvers 12-02-2010 10:52 PM

I am working on a 175 load. I will let you know. I am not sure a 168 would make 320PF in a 16 inch.

I found a load in the Supersonic listing on the main 1/4 bore page

168gr @ 1958 = 329 PF - That'll work for me

Interested to see what else is around

I have 10k + Nosler Custom Comps so want to use them

If 168 can do it at about 55,000 or less pressure, that that would be better than 175. I picked 175 to work with as I am skeptical that a 168 can really do it within normal pressures in all 16 inch barrels.

Its not much faster than most of the 180 loads on accurate shooter - ~150fps

Powders

Maybe when Hodgdon releases its leverevolution and superformance powders in January. I'm sure one of the two will work to get some extra fast loads.

They need one around H110 in order to help.

fpjeepy05 12-05-2010 10:26 PM

Is there anyway to find out where it would be placed on the burn chart? It seems like the Superformance ammunition is loaded to a much higher pressure. http://www.hodgdon.com/PDF/SuperLever.pdf

160gr 30-30 to 2400ft/s at 37,000 CUP is pretty impressive though.
