feeding question for bolt gun

i just wanted to know if you guys with bolt guns ( rem 700 ) have any feeding issues with heavy bullets? I have one and have it set up as a single shot at the moment but was thinking about trying to see how it would feed, the smith that built it for me a few yrs back said they were hard to get to load but he wasnt a whisper expert either. mine shoots great as is but would love to be able to feed from a magazine

thanks
jared

Its not a problem. I've done a bunch that cycle reliably.

I've had no more problems with the Whisper feeding in a bolt gun then any other cartridge.

You might also look for someone to install a Sako style extractor to your 700 bolt. They are notorious for dropping the case through the ejection phase.

How about ejecting?

got the sako extractor, just been shooting it off a single shot feed ramp, smith told me withthe heavy bullets it kept tiltint to far forward because of the heavy bullet and it wouldnt load right

Spook,

I am not a lover of the 700 extractor or ejector. I always suggest installing a Sako style extractor. Unfortunately there is not much you can do with the ejector.

You will have better ejection using a 17 or 221 Fireball bolt over the 204, 223 bolt.

At least thats what I learned from Remington at Armorers school a couple of months ago. I had never realized they have different bolt heads.

I didn't know that either,I ordered a new bolt from ptg with a 221 bolt face and sako extractor, hope it cures my problems
