Sub Sonic Low
How often are the first shot low with subs?
|
low velocity?
|
Most of my shooting is in the woods or field and not over a chrono, so I can not verify. I have read in the past of people leaving a oiled barrel for first shot, but I do not.

In this context what do you mean by "first shot" ?
First shot after cleaning? First shot from a lubricated barrel? First shot on a given day? FIrst shot ever fired from the barrel? First shot when the barrel is cold? First shot from a full magazine? First shot after releasing the bolt catch manually? First shot after lowering the bolt gently on the first round? Something else? Any of those could give a low first shot and each could have different reasons. As to how often, the answer must be "only once" if it's to be only the first shot in any context. |
Sorry for lack of info. First shot from a cold bore. Most of the time it is where I cannot use a chrono and is at paper and steel. I often grab one of my rifles and do a walk or watch a spot in the woods for hogs ect. and some times shoot 2 or 3 times to check sights. Seems a lot of times 1st shot from cold bore is a inch or so low. I try so keep check of my first shot.

I eliminated this problem with the switch to whisper. In 308 Subs it was a recurring problem. I think the 300W subs have enough pressure to eliminate the problem. Try some VV110.
