Anyone tried H4198 or H322?
I'm looking for a slower powder to solve a short stroking issue. I haven't been able to get any AA1680, but looking at the burn charts H4198 and H322are close to a # of powders that are on published data:
#44 Alliant 2400 #45 AA #9 #47 VN110* #48 Lil gun #49 H110** #50 Win 296* #51 IMR4227** #52 H4227** #54 AA1680 #58 H4198** #59 VN120 #60 H322** #61 AA 2015BR #63 IMR 3031** #64 VN130 #64 H Benchmark #65 H335** *= Powders I've tried (& didn't cycle subsonic) **=Powders I have on stock Looking to be subsonic with a 200 gr SMK, 16.5" AR15 upper, gas block in the Pistol position. What powders have you tried, range of weights, and any notes. dirty, inconsistent, worked great, poor accuracy, etc. |
H4198 and H322 are too slow to get to work with the 300-221 Fireball. My best luck for subsonic loads has been with the following powders:
LilGun AA#9 2400 W296 Here are some data from the Sierra Manual for 200 MK bullets Powder /Velocity 1100 1200 1300 1350 1400 AA-No.9 ----------9.9 --10.8 -11.7-12.2-12.7 2400 -------------10.7---11.5-12.3-12.7-13.1 Viht N110 --------9.2---10.5-11.8-12.3 ---- H110 -------------10.7 --11.7-12.7 -13.2--- 296 ---------------10.6 --11.6-12.7-13.2-13.8 Viht N120 --------12.2 --13.2-14.2-14.7-16.0 I hope this helps 320pf |
I use X-Terminator for my sub sonic load. 13.9 grains. 13.8" barrel. Regaular buffer and spring. Carbine gas system.

I've tried 4198 but only in the bolt actions. Its ok but 2400 has been much better for consistancy and N110 too. I've been using 2400 or Lil'gun to run the SIG. It works fine but its not an AR so probably not a lot of help to you....
Good luck Frank |
