510 impressed me this time...
We fired a few rounds out of the Desert Tactical with the suppressor and had some pretty interesting results with penetration on the targets. The targets were 5/16" AR500 armor plate at 265yds and we were firing 605gr APIT and 650gr API. The surprise was that there were holes in the plates from the penetrators. Not all the hits punched holes but of the 25rds fired there were 3 holes through the plate, 1 that still had a bit of steel over the hole but essentially through and one that left the penetrator stuck in the plate. Thats 20% of the rounds fired. Considering these were all subsonic and pretty damn quiet I was impressed. The armor plates were swinging targets so the holes were punched near the top where energy wasn't dissapated by the swing. About half the APIT's lit which is about the same percentage of them that light in my 50 BMG. Pretty amazing for 28gr of powder compared to the 225 used in the big 50.
Here are some pics of the stuck penetrator and one of an APIT in flight. Frank http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...itinflight.jpg http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...rom250yds3.jpg http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...rom250yds2.jpg http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...from250yds.jpg |

Glad the pics were liked. Frank |
That pic of the trace is too F-ing cool!
I have been shocked at how well reduced/subsonic charges have been working in the few calibers I've tried so far.... |
Would not have expected the any penetration at all. Very impressive.
