.458 Socom Dies
 

I bought Lee Dies so I could bell the case for large lead bullets. The seating die is not long enough to seat the long heavy bullets. Which seating dies are long enough for long bullets and long OAL?

I have the Lee dies too and felt the same way until I worked out how to adjust them.

Turn the seating stem part out to its fullest. Then start screwing the die into the press. Use the dies' position in the press as the primary adjustment.

Very fiddly, not user friendly - but at least the dies are cheap!

That is the way I have used them, then take the seating stem out to screw down to crimp the flare in. In this position, the stem adjuster is 1/8" above from starting thread.

Guys, not to get off subject but what did you use as barrel length?:confused:

Mine's 18 inches finished on a Rem 700 bolt action.

I'm not belling the case mouth for seating the 550 grain VLDs and I sometimes (when I remember!) do it for the 325s and 500 grainers.

I use a Rockchucker press and it took some fiddling, thinking and cursing to get the seater die right.

I am using 16" on a Savage. Thanks Spook for a good deal on the barrel.

Hello Allycat, have you got the suppressor for your shorty yet? I am wanting to find out effective a suppressor is with the .458 Socom Sub-Sonic.

Yep. They will make what ever you would like. It may take a while, but they will make it.

Can you share any specs? Is it for subsonic use only?

10" x 1.5 supersonic and subsonics OK

458 socom is fun but dont expect it to be quiet as a 9mm or 300 whisper
no matter the size of the can.
