Using a Russian milled receiver parts kit
[Wanted to ask if anyone could help with a question I have in reference to using a Tapco flat to build a ak47 from a Russian ak milled reciever parts kit. This is a full stock parts set not an underfolder. Thanks in advance for any help.

FYI,
I have read on other forums that you do not want to try your hand at building a ak out of a milled parts kit unless you have some machining skills and the appropriate machining tools. Guess I'll stick with the stamped sets. |
Sorry you never got a reply... I have not played with the Milled AKs myself nor did I really take the time to study what is involved... Perhaps I should try to get a basics understanding myself...
If you find relevent info in your searching I welcome and encourage you to post links here. I will be building a milled AK soon... |
Can be done
I built a Russian underfolder from a beat-up milled kit. It took a bit of careful work to grind the mill-stubs down into "trunnions" using the flat surface area on the side of a grinding wheel. Then I welded them into the stamped receiver (a Coldsteel UF blank). I also had to clean up and refinish the wood a bit. I didn't take any pictures of the build process, because I was winging it, but it came out really nice and it is my favorite AK.
