SBR'ing a Calvary Arms plastic lower?
Has anyone ever SBR'd a Calvary Arms plastic lower/buttstock?
I bagged one of the Noveske 10.5" .300 Fireball barrels a week ago. I thought about doing a Form 1 for an SBR on the plastic lower and another Form 1 on a titanium 9mm suppressor for it. My concern is engraving the plastic lower, any challenges with that? Does NFA require it to be metal? Any thoughts please. |
The cav arms lower is not versital for as butt stocks, but you can run 45 grease gun mags with a short barrel. That would be the only reason I would. I like short stocks with short barrels.

yeah you can sbr it, but you can find forged lowers and lpk's for under 200. I would not be thrifty with a nfa toy as it is a lifetime investment.

ya, i agree with last post. if you are going to pay another $200 and go through the wait and paperwork hassle, then i would for sure sbr a quality lower that you know will last forever.

My original plan:
billet lower, 325; geissele trigger, 280, UBR stock, 265 and a few other goodies brings the SBR price to about $1230 for the lower half. I know the Cav lower is the cheap route. I figured I could do it for about $420 substituting some other parts (tuned RR NM trigger instead) as well. CA told me I could shorten the A1 length buttstock an additional 1.5" without any problems with the buffer tube. I thought the $800 difference would allow me to build the upper and recover the barrel cost and Form 1 a 9mm suppressor. I know, it is ugly as heck, but some desert camo or FDE/OD acsents would help. Any thoughts? |
it's up to you man. it's your gun.
but you can get a aluminum lower for $100 and i would rather build on metal then plastic any day. also, later on you can upgrade your stock, and grip and trigger, you don't have to do it now. |

Billet lower, 200, forged 100 or even free if you buy a noveske upper right now :D lpk with buttstock assembley, around 125 stamp 200 so even at worst case senario you are looking at $525 with the stamp, then all you have to do is buy the parts you want later. you can always find them used and alot cheaper! Even if you did this all right now you will have to wait about 3 months to pop your upper on it, in which case you can save up any extra while you wait if wanted and save around $125 in the process if you dont buy the lpk with butt assy right now. like the previous poster said, it is your gun but you have to rember what you will want later and i think a metal lower is the way to go. I have 2 and was concidering a ca lower at first but they are plastic, and aluminum can be welded if there was a accident. besides you can always sell the ca lower and just about pay for a forged one :D I hope this helps, but again you have to rember this is your toy not mine! |
Billet lowers here 80$ http://www.centerfiresystems.com/ARLOWER.aspx
Standard lowers here 55$(i just got two) http://www.rguns.net/ |
I landed 3 Double Star lowers with consecutive serial numbers. Already engrave the first one. The next one will probably end up as a 9mm shorty.
Thanks guys. |
