considering a 300 whisper

I am considiering a 300 whisper but would like to ask a few questions first. Is it difficult to find a subsonic load that is consistant and accurate?
Would you recommend a gun built on an AR or a bolt platform? why?

I was thinking of using 220 mk's, would I need an 8 twist or something different?

How accurate can these be, moa or 1/2 moa?

Thanks Shane

There is tons of data for the 300 Whisper.
Do you prefer an AR or bolt? Pick what you like best. A bolt gun will be easier to work with though.
My AR shoots consistently into 3/4 MOA. A friend's bolt gun shoots into 1/2 MOA.

sub moa is very easy and your choice of bolt or AR will be a personal preference. I shoot a bolt whisper and love it. As for your bullet choice- I shoot 220 SMK's exclusively and an 8 twist is perfect.

thanks for the replys. I prefer AR's but was concerned that reliability could be an issue with subsonic ammo. Perhaps I have misunderstood some of the gas related problems that I have read about here.
I still have to see if I can get a suppressor here before I commit to a rifle. I have heard that our LEO may not sign off on it, hopefully that's just a rumor though.

Trust! no sign off

agree a trust is the only way to go---no LEO---no prints---no pictures---no questions when you die, because the trust lives on with it's successors/other trustees.
one trust, but many toys

so how does a trust work and how will it make it easier to get a can?

Alleycat 12-01-2009 09:19 PM

The trust owns the suppressor, SBR, SBS, or machine guns. The trustees can use the items in the trust. So if you and say your wife are trustees you can both use the stuff. The form 4 will have the name of the trust on it instead of your name. Make the name short if you ever plan on a SBR. As the name must be engraved on SBS or SBR. The trust lets you legally sidestep half the process. You can do a LLC or Corporation as well, but the trust is the best route. I do an individual only because TN requires CLO to sign off if you pass the 2 min background check.

Alleycat, is a trust for NFA's different than an ordinary trust? I am currently looking for a local attorny familiar with this but am not having much luck. You said in TN you are required to have CLEO signoff, where can I find out if Ohio is the same way?
