Thank you indeed.

I'd really like to know how it quiets down with the Elite Iron can on it. I know Dale and Kathy, been to their shop, good people. Cans are a tad heavy but I hear they are quiet and very well made.

I have an SBR tac-inc receiver as well. You certainly have me thinking about this caliber now.

There are a couple bolt rifles that can be made to fire the 458 as well it seems.... Hmmmm...

Hi,
Talking about bolt actions rifle chambered for the 458 socom:
That would be great if winchester (FNH) could chamber their ultra small winchester 70 rifle in that calibre. The round would fit just fine.
Capacity might be limited to 2 rounds in the magazine though.
They could manufacture a metal bottom that would accept either ar-15 mags or mini 14 mags for greater capacity.

How about that?

ND

PS: meanwhile my first 458 socom rifle is gona be built on a standard winchester 70 action, as that was all that was available over here.

I'm ordering some brass as a first step. Then have to decide whether the 458 or the 50 is an option!

I got to do some shooting this weekend. Looks like 21.5 gr of VV N110 and the 530s will average 1.75" in my gun. 22gr shot better, but it's too close to the speed of sound. If I got any suppressor boost I would be cracking. I shot 4 groups with the 530s and 3 with some 480 Hawk bullets. Both bullets shot about the same as far as group size. I think the gun will do a little better with the suppressor. It weighs in at a little over 5 lbs and has 27.4 lbs of recoil energy. It started to get the better of me. It's very energetic to say the least. The .30 cal version is running at about 1.25 in my Whisper. The next thing to do is put some crosshairs on fur.

27ft-lbs is about the same recoil energy as a 300 Win Mag. My AI weighs three times as much and shooting strings without the brakes is exhausting.

Did you get a chrony reading for the 21.5 and 22 grain loading? My preference would be for the 22 grain with the can first of all but if that 1.5 inches is 100 yard groups then both loads are good enough for hunting.

Now we have to look forward to the results of fur time! Can't wait!

Alley cat what is your twist rate on the 458?

I have a .499 leitner wise I have been wanting to put my 510 can on and suppress but I think the twist is like 1/19 and will be too slow but I was hoping to get lucky.

Very nice write up and pics

Thanks Much

Jamie

1 in 14. 21.5 grs of VV N110 is running a little over 1050. 22 grs was in the 1080 range.

I've shot 6 deer this year with my Socom. All with the Outlaw 530s. 4 hit the ground instantly and 2 ran less than 40 yds. I included pics of 1 heart shot, one lung shot, and a exit wound. On the exit wound you can see the bullet fragment holes surrounding the main wound channel. The Socom is pretty devastating on deer no doubt about it.
