308 subsonic loads with VV N310
I haven't found many people using this powder for 308 subsonic use.
Anyone here have a good load for their bolt gun? here's the hardware I'm using Savage 10FCP 16" barrel 10 twist 175 gr SMK, 180 RN Hornady thanks in advance. |
N310 in 308.
A quickload simulation indicates that for a 16" barrel with uncoaded 175 SMKs at 2.8" OAL with barrel fricton using 8.6 grains of N310 would give:
MV 1060 fps peak pressure 25038 psi muzz pressure 2778 psi case fill 34% Have you tried it? Shot it over a chonongraph? What SD and ES did you get? Does it burn reasonably clean? |
Thanks for the reply. I haven't tried N310 yet.
This is a new gun and have several powders to try - N310, Unique, TrailBoss. I've loaded a bunch of combinations and will try them out this weekend. |
I recently bought a savage allweather 0ne in ten twist and he was loading sub 308s and I am continueing on with his research. I'm using N320 shot gun powder. I dont know much about reloading, I've only just started. Speaking to a couple of guns in gun shops they have told me not to go over 180 grains in weight for the projectile as the one in ten twist will not develope accurate flight but he was telling me about another projectile and a different powder that could give a heavier grain size. I want to kill deer reliably up to 100 yards.
The guy I bought the gun off was using dacron to fill in the extra space in the cartrage but everyone I have spoken to says that is a bad idea. I have loaded some with good result I.e. it fired but I have not chronographed or fired them at targets on the range. Any research I do I'll post here, including photo's of kill shots. |

I have 300-221 built on Rem. XR-100 action.
Have done much trying/testing with many fast pistol type powders and have settled on LilGun for subsonic rounds. Clean. efficient and easy to meter. Keep my loads in the 1030-1050 range and usually shoot 200 cast up to 240 SMK's. Very happy with the LilGun loadings. Give it a try. Gary |
