Is there a "best" powder for a bolt gun?

I'm loading primarily subsonic 240 gr MK for a 16" barrel Rem 700. A lot of the pet load here and other places I've looked are for AR platforms. Is there a powder or powders that work better in bolt guns that are not really recommended for a AR. Also, is there any Trail Boss data that can be put into Quick Load.

VVN-110

Thanks, Spook. I havent been able to get any VVN-110 yet. I haven't had that good of a result with H110.

Tried Trail Boss - As much as I could stuff in the case 490 fps..The other one did not make it out!!! My 2 cents worth..296 works pretty well for me....

I've had good results with VV N110 and with Lil'gun. We tried a few others for lighter bullets like 2400 also with good results. Most of what we've been running have been 220gr SMK's with 9.2gr of VV N110. I don't recall the load with lil'gun but it was pretty good too. I like the bolt guns much better than the semi's and all I've built have had 16-16.5" barrels. The N110 is pretty clean, consistant and meters well. It seems to build a bit more moisture than the other powders and condensation in the can can be a problem. A simple WD40 blast in the can and an oily patch down the bore will keep that from being an issue.

Hope that helps
Frank

I have a 700 action with a Hart barrel and YHM Phantom. I tried 8 different powders with no accuracy successes. Everything I tried had huge velocity deviations from one round to the next. I tried AA2015 and everything fell into place. I use 11.2 gr Behind 220 SMK’s. When I do my part I can make half inch groups. I find it to be a little temperature sensitive and not as quiet as some of the other loads I tried. I never did try VVN-110 because I couldn’t find any at the time.

My 700 has a Douglas barrel with a 1-8" twist and am using a YHM Phantom QD. So far I've used 1680 and H110 and haven't had good results. Loading subsonics is new to me but I've never had problems getting sub moa loads with standard velocity loads in other calibers in the past.

I was told buy the man who built my rifle that the faster the powder usually the quieter the gun with a silencer. I tried them all and ended up with 8.6 grains AA#9, Fed 205 match primers, and lake city brass. It shoots great and is very quiet.

+1 on the AA#9. AA#9 and W296 are the two powders that work the best in my three different ARs. AA#9 for subsonic loads and W296f for super sonic loads.

I've been playing H335 and RL7 both have been good in my AR and seem to do well in the bolt gun.
