My Newest Aquisition - Phrobis 3 Line Chevron
 

I guess prices are down. I just bought a nice 3 line chevron for $289. I have just recently returned to buying M9's. I may be in trouble, as I think I may actually be collecting them now! I also just bought a ''flat top M, crazy 9" the other day. I haven't received it yet. I hope it is actually what I think it is! I think I got a pretty good deal on it. I'll post some pictures once I get it.

That was a steal at 289.00, because I doubt it might happen again...It looks like the one that Lee had forsale on Ebay. I paid 400.00 + shipping for one last year.. So good luck looking for the other ones you need.....Rex

Here is a picture of one that I am waiting for. I got it on ebay the other day for $129 shipped. I guess it's OK to use an auction picture, since I bought the item.

By the way, I read your post on the jouster forum and I see that you examined very well the two Phrobis examples you have.
I posted the same question about the "dots" on the pommell, back in 2005.

I did not receive any answer, but I came to the conclusion that the dots on the pommell and the levers are all suppose to help the armorers, when assembling/disassembling the bayonets, to know which is the front/back parts of the pommell/levers and that you can find them on some models and not on others plus some strange combination like the dot on the pommell and no dots on the levers.

Carlo, I don't know if you remember about those dots, I could swear they are there to test the hardness of the blade to the specifications set and that they took one off the assembly line every once and awhile to do so...........I have a couple of m-9's with them, a first generation and a fourth generation one.........

you are very right about the small marks on the blade to test the hardness, but I was referring to the different "dots" you usually find on the pommell and the latch levers.
I create confusion as I used the word "dots" but, according to the manual (see below) the correct word should be indentation.
Take a look at the following picture, where I marked them

It seems that the right release lever is supposed to be, actually, installed on the right side, as was the left on the left side.

I am glad to be a new member of the forum. I have learned a lot already and am sure that I will learn a lot more.

All of my Phrobis M9's have the indentations except for the one Pat. Pend. piece.

If you notice, I believe there aren't any on a Lan-Cay pommel.

I just looked at my LANCAY M9's
 

I have three, all with indentations on the pommel. It's hard to see it on the one to the left in the picture, but it is there. Only the one on the right has them on the latches.

Left - M9, LANCAY, U.S.A. Fuller on rigt side of blade.
Middle - M9, LANCAY, U.S.A. No fuller.
Right - M9, LAN-CAY, U.S.A. Oxide blade.
