Is it a legit M-9? The phrobis markings are on the wrong side, plus there is no made in the usa with the phrobis markings...........Rex

I sent the seller an email a few days ago asking a few specific questions about this bayonet. His one line reply was "It is genuine." I again emailed him saying that I wasn't questioning the authenticity of the piece but was looking for detailed information. I have not heard back from him and with the bid currently sitting at $550 I don't expect that I will.

I have some reservations about this bayonet. I contacted two SIG distributors here in the US trying to find out if this is a genuine SIG accessory. They responded that they have not seen them nor are they avaialble in the catalogs that they have. I currently have an email in to the SIG corporate office and I'm awaiting their response.

The SIG/M9/Phrobis markings are clearly etched on the blade; they were not applied during the manufacturing process but applied at some later time. The bayonet is a Buck 1994 commercial piece. This definitely places it long after any Buck/Phrobis association (that ceased in 1989).

There is a possibility that SIG marked some bayonets to be sold with their rifles. I know they did a small group of them in 1987 and they were shown in the SIG catalog. I will continue to try to get additional information and would welcome any input from others.

Perhaps SIG got a deal on some of the last remaining M9 bayonets/parts from BUCK & fabricated a number of them to go with the STGW550. If this can be substantiated it makes for another obscure & interesting M9 variant...

... I think too , there's a little doubt about that M9. I'd put 550 $ on that , but , i beleive i will not put more ... And , personnaly , i don't like the system that use this seller with the User ID kept private with the bidder's ......

Probably i'm wrong in my " way " .... but .. strange and i prefer keep my money for one other bayo ..

Porterkids hit my reservations about this bayonet when he stated that the 1994 date of the bayonet was way beyond the contractual relationship between PHROBIS and BUCK. If SIG did acquire a batch of late model, commercial M9s manufactured by BUCK why would they need to add PHROBIS III to it as well as the SIG mark? And if they did what would they have had to do to acquire the right to stamp the PHROBIS mark on the blade? It would seem much less cheaper and easier to simply purchase a batch of BUCK commercial M9s and stamp their own logo or have BUCK supply a batch with the additional SIG markings. It just all doesn't seem right, IMO.

Yet another US only auction! whats wrong with the rest of the world?:confused:

I may be off the beam here, but that odd "PHROBIS III" marking seems familiar.
I want to say I have seen a similar style marking on some M9 marketed in Asia several years back. Came in a wooden box I think, but I am not positive, since it was at a time I was just becoming familiar w/the MPBS M9...
