Has anyone tried a Ruger? If the Remingtons have feeding or extraction issues I was thinking of trying a build on a Model 77. They have a Mauser type controled feed and good extraction.

my solution worked at least partially so that now the extraction/ejection issue is a much smaller problem. I took the ejector out of the bolt and lengthened the slot in it so that it would push out further than it had. That makes it maintain pressure on the case as it comes out of the chamber and keeps it harder against the receiver wall so that it won't just fall into the mag. The problem seems to be that the ejector bottoms out on the retaining pin leaving the case loosely held by the extractor. Once you clear the chamber itself the case falls out since its no longer retained by the extractor due to the ejectors lack of pressure on it. I'm going to do a bit more of the cutting on the ejector as its still not 100% but it is a lot better.
I would also add that cutting the spring for the ejector is a sure way to make the problem worse and it would probably be better to extend the spring after cutting the retaining slot further.

I don't own a 700 in 300 whisper, however when you think about the physics involved, this seems like the correct way to go and the ejector is easy to replace if you mess it up.

What about retro fitting the Remmy with a Sako type extractor?

I don't think the extractor has anything to do with it. The shortness of the case, causes it to swing out of contact with the ejector. As the case is pulled from the chamber, the case mouth clears the cut chamber and swings into the lug area, since the case is really short it rotates farther out, to the point where the ejector is no longer pushing.

It seems the easiest way to correct, would be to extend the ejector. The amount the eject extends is controlled by a relief cut into it's side for the retaining pin. If the relief cut is extended, this would allow the ejector to extend. It could look a little strange since the bolt will have ejector protruding out past the front of the bolt.

I looked at changing the extractor but what I found was that the 700 extractor isn't really part of the problem and the SAKO extractor won't help much. The biggest advantage to the SAKO extractor is that it has a bit more area to pull the case out so if you have a sticky chamber it might be help....
