My two favorite calibers 300 Whisper on an SS, 8 twist Brux and 223 Ack,8 twist, on a CrMly Shilen. Better stock up on 220 RN's and 80 AMAX. |
very sweet- who built it?

He did:nanabang:

AlmightyBob's right.....in case anybody needs one.

quick question on that, how do you tighten down the barrel tight enough to keep it on there but not so tight you can't take it off easily? Or is it a switch barrel with tools?
Looks good! Jon |
with tools, action wrench, wooden blocks, bench vise....along the lines of a Savage, but you dont have to set the headspace, just lean on the action wrench a little.Takes about 8 minutes. I suspect you could put a witness mark on the underside of the barrel the way that Howa does to be more precise.
|
Could you make it hand tight but have a latch type mechanism like a Sten or an Uzi or even like the new bushmaster ACR(magpul masada)?
I now understand its not a quick and dirty quick change but rather a more precision one. Jon |
Do you use two recoil lugs, one for each barrel? Do you pin the recoil lug(s) or if not how do you hold them while tightening a brrel?
|
Lou. same lug. No pin. Theres a tool that bolts into the bottom of the receiver that aligns things for starters. I use witness marks on the reciever /lug to make sure I'm in the same place each time. Very easy. I'm threatening to have notches cut into my actions so I can use Savage aftermarket lugs which locate themselves.
Jon, I imagine that something could be developed along those lines for the whisper. I've shot then "hand tight" several times. The higher pressure/velocity cartridges may suffer in accuracy if the receiver/ barrel joint isnt nice and snug. |
How much for just the barreled action in a 300 whisper on a 700 ? :)
