Out of battery lockup with RLL
I noticed that with the link installed that the bolt carrier is about a papers thickness away from being into full lockup.
Should I mill the carrier trip a little more or is this not that big of a deal? It seems like it's barely is enough to trip the hammer as it is and I don't want to mill off more if I don't have too. |
I actually came on here to find an answer to the same question... My brother decided to invest in a RLL about a year ago and just now decided to let me install it for him.
I milled down the carrier to where it is at about the same timing as you described. I can ride the bolt slowly forward all the way until the charging handle locks in without tripping, but I am still about a millimeter out of battery. Just a slight nudge from the forward assist will trip it at that point. We have not yet operated this with the RLL; wanted to come on here to get advice from people who have been there to make sure I'm not about to kaboom his gun on him. ps- I do have a RDIAS in my own weapon, set with a somewhat slow rate of fire. The timing on his gun is virtually at the same place, or maybe a TINY bit (.01 in) earlier. However, with the difference in the carrier weights/ firing pin clearances/ hammers etc. I could imagine that timing an AR15 w/ RLL would be different than an M16. Then again, maybe I'm just being way too cautious. But that's not up for me to decide; you guys are the experts. What say you? |
