LanCay Bayonets
 

I recently got some new storage cabinets and I'm in the process of moving a lot of my M9 bayonets out of storage containers and boxes into the new cabinets. I have my LanCay and Lan-Cay bayonets spread out to sort them out prior to putting them into their new drawers. I took a couple of photos to share. These are just the LanCays; not Phrobis, Buck or foreign copies.

I second what Lee said...living outside the USA makes really hard to collect M9s (expecially when more than 60% of ebay auctions are USA only :mad: :mad: ).

I see multiple models of the very same bayonet (the LanCay Tan in the first picture, for example)...are there any differences between them or....you just like to collect as many as possible?:wink:

I have very few duplicates, especially when it comes to the common stuff. The tan bayonets near the center of the group have the unit markings on the blade (101st, 82nd, 10th Mtn & Special Forces). I have these only in tan. That is the color that Lan-Cay was making them in when they were first made. You can obviously have them in a multitude of colors, but I've decided that one of each blade marking is sufficient. The tan bayonets near the left side with the MOLLE scabbards are USMC trials pattern with the EGA and USMC markings, no M9 marking. One with a standard blade and one with the holes. As I said, there are a few duplicates but not many.

Next you need to get an AR for EACH one of the bayonets and you will be SET.:grin:

Unfortunately the State of Connecticut has an assault rifle ban and we cannot buy M16s or AR15s.

Come to the @$$ hole of the US (Mississippi) we dont have any gun laws worth a crap. Just dont carry one with no licences. THATS IT :uzi2:

Question, do the early M9s marked "LanCay" (1st contract) only come in OD or were they also available in multiple colors?

As you know, with a 3/16" Allen wrench you can have any color bayonet you want. To the best of my knowledge, the first contract LanCay bayonets were only made in OD. I do have some pieces with first contract fuller blades that were assembled at a later date with black components.

As far as I have seen the early lancays only were in the od color..

Appreciate the info folks! Wasn't wanting one in anything other than OD just wanted to know what LanCay offered at the time.

porterkids: Your pic is an inspiration. I also try avoid the duplicates and only have a couple dupes in 1st contract no/fuller and 2nd contract bayos. Sometimes it just too hard to pass up a good deal. I figure if nothing else they are good trading stock. :smile:

I too have a bunch of extras, of both first and second contract Lancays that I keep around. Of course you can never have enough.. I even have a few m-11's in my collection

Hello everyone, As most of you pro's know, I'm new to this forum, I have a question for you all, I see in the e-bay auction, item # 320393467488 LanCay bayonet with the fuller, can anyone tell me what contract this bayonet is and the year it was interduced to the military, also is this a good bayonet to add to my collection or do you think theres better out there and perhaps I should pass on bidding on it?, I'm not a big collector, don't have alot of $$$ for that, an being a disabled Nam vet, most of you know we don't get paid alot, but I do have the following Phrobis M9's...Chervron, flat top, early 3 line that say's M9 Phrobis lll USA, M9, Phrobis lll USA Pat. Pend, M9 Phrobis/buck+, M9 A1 Phrobis Int'l desert storm Commemorative, M9 Ontario knife co. USA Operation Iraqi freedom ( both Marine and Army)
And a M9 Ontario USSOCOM ( global war on Terrorism) and a few Lan-Cay's, such as LanCay with the step in the blade, improved 3rd marking, 4th markings 1996, but I know I also need the LanCays with the fullers in them both short and deep and long and shallow, and the LanCay without the step in the blade, I understand I have only scratched the surface of collecting, but everyone has to start somewheres right?...besides the question I asked above, can anyone tell me other Phrobis that are a must to have?, I understand there are tons of proto types to get, but for now I'm just getting the basic ones, that I can hand down to my Son who is also an Iraq war veteran....thanks everyone and I hope I? haven't bored you all to much, maybe atlease made ya smile abit...Guy

Well now i am going to have to look for the Blue one, seemed to have missed that one, but then there are a lot more I dont have yet on top of that one, but it looks so perrrty :tongue:

I've noticed that the LanCay that was sold by Mr. Majson76 e-bay auction # 370217833529 had a short deep blood grove in it and had a step on the blade in back on the saw teeth, the one that is being auctioned of on e-bay right now # 320393467488 has the deep shorter blood grove, but has NO step behind the saw teeth, can someone tell me the difference besides the step in the blade there is in this LanCay, and can someone please give me some dates of this bayonet.........Thanks much!

Not really " rare " i see this type of EARLY LanCay 92 three at four times every year (since 2007) ... around 270 / 300 $

Both bayonets are early first contract bayonets. They are identical. The current auction has crappy photos, but it is a standard fuller and there is a step in the blade.

Thanks Bill, will you please explain to me the difference with the step and no step on this LanCay, is it the years it was contracted? is this an early 92? and maybe the no step is a late 92 or early 93, or am I way off base?....Thanks much!

The bayonet is question has a step. The picture quality is poor.

In general, The First Contract bayonets had the step in the blade. The blades were also bright (vs. black). Also in general, the Second Contract bayonets all have black oxide blades and no step in the blade. However, there were a small number of First Contract bayonets made with bright Second Contract blades (about 1000) and a smaller number of Second Contract bayonets made with dark first contract blades (about 300).
