The USMC's NighT !

...AMAZING , INCREDIBLE , but .... Not impossible ! Yeah Master Bill ... as me , you saw the famous ebay bid for the USMC buck + at 2025 dollars.

porterkids 02-13-2008 09:10 AM

Sometimes I wonder what people are thinking when they pay outrageous prices for things on ebay. That same bayonet sitting on a table at a gunshow probably wouldn't bring $300.

For those of you who didn't see it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-GI-ISSUE-US...QQcmdZViewItem

By the way, I contacted the seller and he does have the correct scabbard for the bayonet. He accidentially photographed the bayonet in the wrong scabbard and didn't realize it until after he posted the photos to ebay.

... the " next " surprise will be (perhaps) with that " CHEVRON " !!

From a collector's perspective, I'm not so happy about what is going on ebay lately :frown: .
I mean, with people who are willing to pay so much money for a bayonet which (we all know) is worth MUCH, MUCH less the next time we'll see an USMC + the seller will put on it a reserve of, at least, $ 1000, thinking that it is a fair price........

So, it looks to me like there were four insane bidders on this knife and two of the four really need some meds... If anyone wants one of these knives in about the same condition I will sell mine for $2000

lee cousens 02-13-2008 12:51 PM

Well it looks like its time to start a stamp collection!!!!!!!!!!!
There must be people with too much money to spare.

porterkids 02-13-2008 05:26 PM

All I want to know is, where are these guys when I'm selling something?

I didn't think this one would go so high in price...Heck I have 2 extra ones, would be nice if I could get half of that going price for the pair of them..

lee cousens 02-15-2008 10:20 AM

You could always post 1 to a U.k collector who hasnt got 1 yet!!!! 2 is way too many:smile:

Update!
One more M9 USMC for sale
http://cgi.ebay.com/USMC-M9-BUCK-199...QQcmdZViewItem
...and (as predicted) there is a reserve by the seller.....
...unfortunately, there is also a nick on the blade...because of it the "fair" price should be around $1500-1700!

Quarterbore 02-22-2008 05:16 PM

It looks like the seller got smart after the listing was posted as if you look at the revision history they revised their reserve twice:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=160209041752

Still, $650.00 still seems like way too much for that bayonet to me but I guess it may well be a sign of things to come...

biboufab 02-22-2008 08:57 PM

...As u can see Quarter' the backstrap of that second USMC was not the good ! .... So , it just a " good " price for the seller :)

I took a second look at the (in)-famous auction "2000+ dollars Buck USMC"
http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-GI-ISSUE-US...QQcmdZViewItem
Seems that something went wrong, as all the auction pictures had been replaced (now we have a 2000 dollars scabbard   ) and there is no feedback left for the seller or the buyer....

biboufab 03-12-2008 01:19 PM

ahah !! Great , great Carlo !

porterkids 03-12-2008 03:18 PM

I've corresponded with this seller several times over the years and I can tell you that he is a reputable dealer. He was just as shocked as everyone else with the $2000 auction result. I wouldn't be surprised if the high bidder backed out on the deal, but I haven't followed up with the seller to ask.

The pictures have been replaced because the seller doesn't keep the pictures from the old auctions on his photo server forever. He just happened to use the same file name for this scabbard that he had used for the M9 bayonet. I've seen this happen many times before, not only with this seller.
