Need help reloading 50 alaskan with 50 bmg bullets
 

I just bought a SSK .50 Alaskan 20" Encore barrel that is threaded for my Gemtech Storm front 50 BMG suppressor. I now need to start hand loading ammo. I want to load 50 BMG bullets in the 650-800 grain range and have them moving around 1050 FPS to avoid the sonic boom. I plan mostly on plinking but it is legal in my state to hunt with a supperssor so I might want to try taking a deer at some point. I have not reloaded in years and do not know where to start. If anyone can share powder / bullet recommendations I would greatly appreciate it.

Anyway of measuring your available overall length?

I thought Quickload had 50 Alaskan setup as a cartridge, only has 450 Alaskan.

If you can give me your OAL, cartridge length, water capacity of the case, and the Max PSI you want to stick with I'll run Quickload on it.

Although JD @ SSK would undoubtedly be the best source of data.

kicks like a damn mule! 6 rounds today and my shoulder is killing me. Think I'll replace the factory TC pad with a limbsaver. Only shot at 50 yards, but it was one huge ragged hole. Hopefully the can will tame the blast once it gets here.

I pulled one of the 750's out of the berm yesterday. The mud was a little softer than tissue, but the tip still bent enough to cause it to tumble. I won't have the can for a few more months, but I'm still going to take it hunting over the next few weeks. I should be able to put at least one doe down (20:1 doe:buck ratio)

Well....

I droped a 140lb doe with one of the 750's this afternoon. At 72 yards, it hit here like Billy Bob finding his wife with her lover right after they drank all of Billy's natural light.

Never found the bullet. I put it through both shoulders and nicked the spine.

Congrats on your success , guess you need to make sure no other critter's behind or you could get a two for one. :eek:

Got an email today that the can is finished. I'm anxious to get the paperwork started. I found out yesterday that if I lived just 1/4 mile to the west, I'd be in a county that isn't gun friendly--Dayton OH/Montgonery Cty. I called my Sheriff's secretary and she was happy to assist. Hope all goes well with the transfer, I really don't want to go the LLC route.

I'll figure out how to post pics this weekend and post results of the 750 AMAX I pulled out of the berm.

still haven't gotten the can, but I got anxious to shoot this monstrosity so I loaded up some cheaper 600 gr buffalo bullets from Woodleigh with 32 gr of RE7. The crony battery was DOA when I got to the range, but the berm damage was significant. Accuracy was about 1 MOA, plenty for a 1/2MOA bullet...
