300 Whisper (New Zealand)
 

Hello I'm new to the forum so bear with me :>. Im in the process of starting a 300 project. Thinking of having one built by Arthur Cleland here in NZ. using a Savage Precision Target Action (right bolt - left port .223), Shilen match grade barrel trued & blue printed, with a full length Percy Engineering suppressor. Has anyone gone down this path, as SSK Industries is no longer represented here in NZ. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Chris. The one I'm building is very similar, using a Savage 12 BVSS. Getting me a barrel from Pac Nor. Also building a Savage Striker, getting that barrel from McGowen. Are you planing on using a can?

Yes it will have a can or what we call a suppressor, it will be a full length one made by Percy Engineering here in NZ.

I don't have any experiance with building a whisper on Savage actions but I have a TC Contender with SSK barrel... ie Shilen 1:8 barrel I have shot .75 MOA with 9.2 grains of H 110 under a 240 grain SMK. Also have experiance with building a Whisper on a CZ action... used a Mike Rock 5r barrel 1:8 twist same load and it has shot .375 MOA...
Looking back at it I think I would have built a 338 or 375 Whisper not that the 300 Whisper isn't anything short of awesome...
