Electric motor recommendation?

Hi all. I've been restoring an old Seneca Falls 4x9 metal lathe. I fabricated a mount for an electric motor/sheave combo but haven't decided on a motor yet. I attached a 1/6 hp motor I had laying around just to make sure everything worked, which it does. I was able to mess around and turn a couple pieces of scrap, but the 1/6 hp was definately not enough power.

I was looking in my Grainger catalog and found there are ALOT of different motors available. Dripproof, thermal protection, etc. I was thinking a 1 hp. motor would be enough. It would need to be 115v.

Thanks for any advice.

Try a 1/2 or 3/4 hp motor. My 12" has a 1 hp 240 v.motor.A 1 hp would be overkill on that size.
