Saw the auction in this morning.
Nice custom.
Interesting that they used a 1994 bayonet to commemorate an event which took place in 1995.

I have a friend down in the San Diego area whom said a guy turned up at the Del Mar gun show several months ago with some sort of USMC commemorative bayonet. Said the guy was fishing for a price, and was talking around $1,500.00. Seems pretty likely this might be the same bayonet, but I will have to ask him.

I think this or a very similar piece showed up on ebay a year or two ago. If I remember correctly it had a starting bid or a Buy It Now price of $1000. It might have been more, I don't remember because I thought it was way too high when I saw it.

These limited edition commemorative pieces do have value, but what that value is really varies from person to person. I feel that the commercially manufactured and marketed commemoratives are more desirable than those made in small number for a reunion or event. But that's just my opinion.

From Joe :

I don’t have any info on that knife but I do have pics of serial number 4 of 10. The one in the thread looks to be number 5 of 10. Pretty cool looking 188! Wish I knew more of the background of it.

I was expecting a final price around $ 500-600.
$ 1000 is way too much, in my opinion, considering that this is just a standard commercial variant with custom engravings (which are very well done).
I do agree with Bill about the difference in value between commercially manufactured commemoratives and those made in small number for a reunion or event.

I suspect the interest in this particular bayonet was greater from the BUCK knife/bayonet fraternity than collectors whom are primarily interested the M9 as a bayonet. Such a bayonet would likely be considered more desirable to a BUCK collector than perhaps an equally scarce or unusual military M9 by Phrobis, LanCay, or Ontario.
