My New Poject----300 Fireball

Here are a couple of pictures. Got the barrel from Model 1 while I wait for
the stainless match one. Had to play with some loads:grin:

I am still in the work up load mode. Looking like .75 MOA.

The suppressor is a Jet---->http://www.jetsuppressors.com/

Yes, I like it a lot. I also use it on my AR10 and Savage Tactical 308.

Welcome to the club and the rifle looks great! I have been traveling a lot for work but with curent politics I have been trying to carve more gun time into my life. I have not got to start working on my own 300/221 upper yet or work up loads.

I am making them for Dan at Shooters Supply, you will have to give
him a call. I am not sure what he is selling them for at this time.

While making up some brass today, I noticed that when forming up to the 308 neck that there is a lot of runout on the case. In other words, when expanding the neck, it deforms the main body of the case some what. While the 125 grn ballistic tips seem to shoot well under sub MOA, I think that the longer subsonic bullets suffer from not getting a good start in the chamber. I would suggest to shoot some full power loads before making up subsonics with new brass. I first noticed this when trimming them
to length, before tightening the collet down on the rim, I would let the case spin while
putting pressure on the cutter end. I was amazed that there was that much deformation. I did not run an indicator on the case but it was easy to see with the naked eye. I am going to load up some subsonics with once fired (super-sonic) brass and see how much of an improvement there is.

ETA: This was going up from 221 fireball cases

I want to pull this back up to let everyone know: While you might be lucky and have
your first loads do just what you want, most of these 300/221's are very picky.
I do not want anyone to say that if you buy an XYZ barrel you can do this, because, that may not be the case. You are going to have to play with the loads and speeds
to get the gun shooting. It is a lot more so with this round than with any other round I
have ever loaded for:cool: What you are going to end up with is one or two loads in the
supersonic that will shoot, and probably only one or two loads of subsonic that will
group like you like. I have also deduced that the crown of the barrel on this round
is the most critical single element that will make and break a load. If you don't believe me, buy one and come back and say WTF:eek: And while it has been fun, I am still not
where I want to be[BD] I still have to pull out my Savage Tactical or AR10 to lob a couple down there just to make sure it is not me:grin: when I get through trying loads.

ETA: You may not want to get too near the speed of sound to optimize your subsonic load:confused:
