Model 1 sales upper owners
Here is my question. Will a Model 1 sales upper reliably work with subsonics? I really want to get into a 300 whisper but getting a barrel is looking like it will be way too expensive to have one made by someone else. So what is the word? Unless someone else knows of a place to get a barrel at a decent price. Someone give me some ideas if you can. Thanks.

mine works fine
Medic, Mine works well, they've got the twist rate straightened out. I cant complain at all as to how it functions or its accuracy.

Good deal. I went ahead and ordered one earlier today. Now I just need to find some dies and I am good to go.

I've got to be the only one lately who's had problems with a Model 1 upper. My chamber is out of spec and WILL NOT chamber a round. Thankfully another member here is loaning me a reamer so I can get it up and running.
As far as dies go, Redding. If you're going to make your own brass get the 3 die set. If you're going to buy pre-made brass get the two die set. |
Interceptor,
Just curious why you recommend the 3 die set if you are gonna form your own brass? I have been using a 2 die set to do just that for almost a year now. What am I missing out on???? Thanks, DonT |
When I called Redding about the dies, that's the advice I got from the tech guy. His words were to the effect that I wouldn't utilize fully a 3 die set with premade brass, and to only get it if I was going to cut and size my own. I didn't mind, since I'm buying my brass from K Davis. Saved me something in the neighborhood of $40 on the set. He even told me where to score a good deal on them rather than get them from Redding. (Graf and Son, which saved me $45 over Redding)

Just curious, I use a two die set and size before trimming... Here are some pics of the round after sizing but before trimming. One on the left is military and the one on the right is commercial. Next to that is the trimmed round and then the bullet I typically use..

Spook what load are you running in yours for subsonics?
|
9.5 grains VVN 110 with 220 grain boolets, RN's and Match Kings. I'm wanting to try some AA#9 in the same weight, it performed exceptionally in another subsonic I load for, easier to find and less pricey.
