Rare Blade

I just happened by luck to get a rare Lancay m9 Blade.. It happens to be a first contract blade with no step in back of the saw teeth, with the second contract black blade with the LanCay markings instead of the Lan-Cay markings. According to the information 200 of these first contract blades were set aside due to the tips being thinner than the specifications back in 1995. Paperwork was lost for a request of the variance and found later. When it was approved it was already the start of the second contract so they were used and the black finish of the second contract was applied.. Unfortunately it was retipped and sharpened along with being buffed with a mirror finish on the blade, but it still has at least 20 percent or more of the black finish showing...I will try to take a picture of this but may not be able to, with the mirror finish on part of the blade... Hi Rex,

I'd love to see some photos of your bayonet. Does it have a fullered blade? The first contract blades that didn't meet spec but were then later used DID have the step in the back edge of the blade in front of the muzzle ring. The first bayonets of the second contract were marked with the original "LanCay" marking. It was right around the time of the second contract that they changed over to the hyphenated name. If your blade does not have the step in the back edge of the blade I would guess that it doesn't have the fuller either. This would make it an early second contract blade.

Bill, as usual you probably right...I just thought it might be so..It is not fullered and doesn't have the step in back of the saw teeth, but it is marked LanCay without the hyphen.. Rex

Hey Rex,

Still a decent piece. You don't see many of the second contract pieces without the hyphen. Some of them also have a hollow ground blade.

So, where are they?

Hello all,
if I'm correct this should be a bayonet from the first part of the second contract.

Well, if so then my knife shown in these pics is the same type as well?

I am not that lucky so I must be confused

Yup, you got lucky; it's an early second contract. Keep in mind that these are not particularly rare, just no where near as prolific as the hyphenated Product Improved model.

Hi all!
I'm new here and have a query. I have an M9 similar to those in this thread in that it has the bead-blasted dark grey finish, its marked "LanCay" without the hyphen, it doesn't have a fuller and does have the step up in front of the guard, the "M9" stamp is over to the left and the sheath has the screwdriver/ wire cutter fitting and a sharpening stone on the back! The Nexus buckle is dated '92.
Could somebody here identify which model this is and give an approx idea of it's collectability and value.
Any help would be gratefully accepted!
Nice site you guys have here!
