Excellent site. I have one suggestion. In this paragraph:
But why not just buy a .308 rifle you ask? Because this round loves it when you put a Suppressor/Silencer on it! Further, it has the ability to properly stabilize heavier rounds (190gr,200gr,220gr,240gr) to insure accuracy, but at the same time, keeps the round under the speed of sound.
You state that the round has the ability to stabilize heavier projectiles. The round has nothing to do with stabilizing the projectiles. That is controlled by the rate of twist of the barrel. The longer (heavier) the bullet the faster it needs to spin. Also, a bullet traveling at 1000 fps needs a faster twist than the same bullet traveling at 2600fps. 1/8 or faster twist is needed to stabilize 200gr and heavier bullets at subsonic speeds in the 300whisper.

Lawfficer, thanks for an awesome page on the 300/ 221. That is a lot of good info. I've been searching for 300 Whisper info on the web for about 5 months now, and your site has a lot of references I have not seen. I'm still trying to learn as much as I can while I'm STILL waiting for all of my parts to arrive. I actually have received a few of them now, but this process is still taking a long time. After reading the info on reloading, I have a question for you that I have never heard anyone discuss. Which of those bullets on your list has the best sub-sonic expansion? I'm looking to make practice rounds that won't need to expand, but I also want a round that will give me the most expansion in a hunting/ sniper bullet? What would you suggest?

To be very honestly I have no clue but they all kill paper very well. Ill have to set up some wet card board next time I go to the range.

The problem Im having now is every one and thier brother, and their brother's brother, and their brother's brothers' cousin are sighting in their deer rifle and getting time to play on the range is almost impossible.

What exactly is a “Sniper bullet”?
The answer to your question is none. All those bullets were designed to expand at velocities well over 1000fps.

The "S" Word
 

O.K. - I knew the moment that I hit enter that I should not have used the "S" word, but I was too tired to edit it. Alright! - I mean "Tactical" as in law enforcement or military use (or maybe even home defense, who knows?)

Engel has a 180 Grain .308 subsonic round that they say expands reliably at 1,000 fps. No one seems to know how it is built. I was wondering if there were any others like it on the market?

The Army uses M118LR 7.62 (308) in the M24 SWS. The bullet is the Sierra 175gr HPBT Matchking traveling at approx 2600fps.
For home defense there are better choices than the 300 whisper.
If I were going to use the subsonic 300 whisper for hunting I would shoot the heaviest bullet that would stabilize in my rifle. With a 1/8 twist barrel you could shoot 220 or 240 grain bullets. Hornady makes a 30 CAL 220 GR Round Nose that will do OK within reasonable range. If zerod at 100 yds you will be 4" high at 50yds, 14" low at 150yds, and 38" low at 200yds. Knowing the exact distance of your game and the amount of elevation to dial into your scope will be crucial. At 200yds your bullet will only have 386 Ft-Lbs of energy. I would keep shots under 100yds.

Something tells me Cherokee knows alot more than the "Junior Member" titles gives him/her credit for.
