Craftsman 101
 

I'm looking at a Craftsman 101 lathe and looking for advice. What is one worth? What questions should I ask, what to look for, etc. This would be my first lathe... Last time I used one was in 8th grade wood shop and that was a long, long time ago.

The Craftsman 101 is a rebadged Atlas 6" lathe. Check ebay for going prices and they aren't cheap. Look at the flat ways for grooves and wear, check for the threading gears they are seperate. See how much slop there is in the handwheel and all the screws, there will prob be some. Some had roller bearing headstocks the rest were just plain bearings. See how much tooling comes with it and is useable. This is just a rough idea but it will get you going...Bob

try to pick up a 12 "
 

I bought a 12" 101.07403 30" craftsman last march for $535 and it was only 90% compleate. the machine I purchased was sold in a auction and was in excelent condition. I am still hunting important parts or manufacturing my own. Though it was missing some parts I felt in the condition it was in to me it was well worth the money. so Just take your time and look the machine and parts are out their you just have to keep looking. Get intouch with a company called "Clausing Inc." they where called Atlas and made the Atlas lathes! They still carry the parts for them; I use them to get my Atlas 10F-series parts.

Great company, and not bad priced either. All the parts I have got came with shipping included.

Say Is Try To Find One With The Change Of Gears, It Can
Get A Bit Costly If You Have To Buy All The Gears That
You Will Need.
