Carter hollow roller experience

Hello, I am thinking of buying a "Carter hollow roller" and wondering what experience people have had with this. It looks like a pretty good piece of equipment but spendy. thanks for anything you can share with me.

I would think that you could build one way cheaper than 400 bucks just my thought...Bob
