the best affordable can you can muster .. what I'm saying is that there are so many options out there that you should buy the best you can afford.

personally I have an SAS 30 cal can that is rated for up to 300 win mag .. I paid 575 plus 200 for the stamp and 50 for my SOT to do the NFA transfer. I don't think you can find a better performing can for less money. FWIW SAS is the can of choice for Accuracy International! :wink:

lots of great cans out there...buy the best you can afford...SAS,Gemtech,AWC, Liberty...etc all make great products...I use both a 30 cal Thundertrap and SWR Trident 9 with my Whisper loads...

Thunderbeast or Shark for me. Light is good. Accurate is better. Both of them are tops at both.

What threads do you have on the barrel? SSK makes two different style cans. One is a standard thread (5/8 x 24 I believe) and the other is a two point contact mounting system which is a different style can all together.

I have an SSK can and have nothing to compare it to, other then I tried it out this weekend. This is on a bolt action, 16.25" barrel.
shooting REM7.5 primers, SSK 300 whisper brass, 9.6 grains of N110 and 220 SMK's clocking at between 1000 and 1045 on my cronograph. My RWS Diana .177 cal air rifle is significantly louder, but then it shoots over 1100 FPS.

SSK products are a little more expensive, but not that much more. How does the board rate SSK's compared to others?

I chose a Gemtech Sandstorm 30 cal 5/8-24, titanium body like this one:

That is not mine but it's the same model. (down the page a bit)

It's still waiting on ATF approval. I chose it for the low weight and it's ability to fit and handle several of my rifles including AAC 300 BLK Rem 700 and AR-15, an AAC 260 Rem 700, and 243 Win and 308 Win DPMS LR-()s. Part of my choice was from web searches on performance and part because I have a local dealer. www.blackweaponsarmory.com in Tucson. They've been very helpful with the paperwork.

Have run Gemtech HVT, Gemtech Standstorm, YHM Phantom, and Thunderbeast 30P-1.

On my (12" barrel) 300BLK (my recipe ammo), the Thunderbeast was most accurate and, without metering, was quietest, but not much more so than the Sandstorm.

The YHM is a great deal, but is heavy as hell, sound suppression is pretty good, durability is great. Did I mention it is heavy?

The Gemtech is a good can, no better in suppression than the YHM, but is lighter weight.

The Sandstorm and 30P-1 are the lightest by a significant margin, and have the best suppression. The threading on the 30P-1 is tight, be sure your thread job on the rifle is a good one if you want the Thunderbeast.

I never recommend QD mounts on weapons where precision and accuracy are paramount. I've seen bad stuff happen with QDs. Thread on's are very secure (use a little anti-seize to keep them from walking back) and repeatability is great with the better cans.

In suppressors, as in most things, you get what you pay for.

I have an SAS Titanium Arbiter that I use on the 300 BLK and two 6.8s. I chose the non-QD mount for the sake of precision.

I am tickled with the performance! Acoustic performance is great and I have seen little to no change of impact point. Great can at a reasonable price.

(Took a doe with it this afternoon. 220 gr SMK subsonic neck shot dropped her instantly. Projectile exited sideways. Did use a 22 LR headshot to end her struggling. I do recommend carrying one for such circumstances!)

If just shooting subsonics then you can go with a 9mm can such as the swr trident9 and get a 1/2x28 and a 5/8x24 endcaps, I use both my swr trident 9 and swr omega 30 with great success

I'm an SWR guy, and a big fan of the omega 30.

I'm in process of a Form 1 built can, but that process is not for the inexperienced, or faint of heart.

I've yet to handle one, but Degroat makes a dedicated whisper can that is supposed to be the cat's meow. Perhaps worth looking into...
