View Full Version : Official Rent Quarterbore's DPH AK-47 Flat Bending Jig - Third Tour!

My first round of renting (http://www.quarterbore.net/forums/showthread.php?t=306) my 555th jig just didn't work out so great and my second round of renting (http://www.quarterbore.net/forums/showthread.php?t=491) my DPH jigs went better but I still learned that the jigs are not lasting long enough to pay for the jig before they need to be replaced!

For this third round of Rental the price is being increased to $30 from the $20 I asked in the 1st two rounds.

You must agree to the following terms:

1. You will POST IN THIS THREAD when you receive the jig.
2. You will POST IN THIS THREAD when you are done using the jig.
3. You will pay shipping plus insurance for $300 WITH A TRACKING NUMBER.
4. You will POST IN THIS THREAD what the tracking number is as soon as you ship.
5. You MUST subscribe to this thread or allow e-mail from the board so that I can let you know when you should pay your rent and so that you will know what is happening.

As for costs, I am going to stick with the original cost structure...

Your Rent of $30 includes The use of the Jig and my grease to do upto five flats. Each extra flat after five I would like to request that an extra $0.50 be paid to help cover the additional wear on the jig. You will also be expected to then ship the jig to the next person as described above. I will try to have two people paid in advance so that the jig can keep moving...

Examples:

You Bend 1 to 5 flats - $30 + shipping to next person
You Bend 6 flats - $30 + shipping to next person + $0.50 in the box)
You Bend 20 flats - $30 + shipping to next person + $7.50 in the box (15 extra at $0.50)
You host a build party and you all do 40 flats = $30 + shipping to next person + $17.50 in the box (5 included + 35 extra at $0.50/each)

Now, if you have someone over to use the jig or two people on the list live close to each other... you can build together or share the tools... all I ask is that you POST WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE and be aware that the person that is signed up here is responsible for my tools ($300 see below).

The value of these tools is $150 and if the tools get lost or damaged during this rotation the person that that has posession of the tools shall be responsible for the $150 + $100 for the case + $50 fee for me to get new tools ($300 total). This is why I say that you must pay insurance and get a tracking number... if this is a problem, please don't sign up!

I will maintain a list here of who is on this list and where the jig is at based on the posts THAT YOU MAKE BELOW telling EVERYBODY where the jig is at....

So, please post below if you want on this list and your post asigns you your position in the line...

I have paid via paypal. Thank you.

Sorry, I did not pay attention that you had paid... I refunded your money as the last thing I heard was that you purchased a jig and you wanted to be removed from the list.

I have both jigs being returned to me and I am planning to stop the jig rotations as there does not seem to be enough interest in the jigs at the $30 rental but at $20 the jigs are not lasting long enough to pay for themselves.

So, people are still welcome to sign up and if I get a list of four or more people I will start another rotation.

I started reading about making my own receiver a couple days ago, and it seems like something I'd like to try. Does anybody have suggestions about using the jig with an alternative to a $150 12-ton press? I saw a thread elsewhere about doing it using a vice. Any thoughts?

Not with my tools!

Let me know when you decide to buy a press, otherwise you need to pay $150 for your own jig!

Quarterbore,

I have received the bending jig. I will try to have the flats done this weekend and ship it on Monday or Tuesday via UPS. Who is next in line?

The other two people on the list have not paid...

So, I am closing this rotation at this point as I have frankly just been too busy at work and with family stuff (darned sports with the kids takes a lot of time)....

If there gets to be a list of people that want to rent the tools I will reopen this and try again but for now I am going to get the tools back and check them out.

My address is all over the case but I will send you a PM as well...

Quarterbore,
Are you still renting your jig? A friend and I want to bend a few flats and we were hoping it would be available. I live relatively close to you in Lancaster, PA. Thanks!

I am not doing jig rotations anymore as the rotations were hard on the tools and I was not making enough off the process to pay for the tools before I had to replace them.

Now, you are real close so I may be willing to work with you so you can rent the tools. I'll look the tools over and send you a PM soon.

I am willing. Are you planning or interested in the Gun show that I think is at Valley Forge this weekend? It is Dec 15th, 16th, and 17th at the Valley Forge Convention Center.

I could get you the jig there and you would just have to pay to ship it back?

Shipping of the jig is the expensive part of this as it does weigh quite a bit.

The price would be $30 with the terms on the 1st post BUT you will be returning the tools to me!

I also assume you have a press and your flats right?

I plan to go to the show this weekend one way or the other as I need to pick up some ammo before the Democrats take contol and come up with some new way to cost me more money!

I think you are smart to look at bending the flats before power changes in Washington!

Actually I am going to try to make it at least for part of one day. I have access to a 12 plus ton press. You can never have enough Ammo, now that you mention it I should pick up some more. If the off chance I can not make it perhaps I can drive down rent it, I’ll even bring it back in person if you would like. I have at present two flats but was thinking about doing four more for spares, and future projects. Lastly I have a source for professional heat treating. (Father worked at a Steel mill)

Let me know how to find you at the show.

Thank you

Thanks.

Sorry, this proved to take too much time and I was replacing tools before I made enough off renting them to cover the cost (IE I was losing money for spending a lot of time trying to figure out where the tools were).

Sorry... I may offer to do this again at some point but not at this time.

I'm a rookie rifle builder and I don't have the skills required to make my own jig, or the money to buy one for that matter. Are you still willing to rent out your jig?
