In my contiouous search for additions to www.buck-184.com (http://www.buck-184.com/) I found this auction on eBAY (http://www.qksrv.net/click-1671811-10381315?loc=http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D6521430502&SID=buck184) that is a great looking knife but it includes what the seller is calling an optional pouch that was availble for these knives...

Does anybody have more info on these pouches? It looks like this has two small pouches and this is the standard large pouch to me...

Here is the description from the auction:

I purchased this knife new and have had it in storage since. The Tang is stamped, Buck, 184<, U.S.A., Pat. Pend.. It has never been sharpened or used. The blade does not have any marks from sliding it in and out of the sheath because I stored it out of the sheath, ( I will have to put it in the sheath for shipping though ). It has the bead blasted finish on the whole blade including the serrated edge making it an early1986 model. The pat. pending stamp means Buck had not received a Pattent # for this model yet, making this knife a very popular knife to collectors. Espiecially in this condition. The blade is aprox. 7.5 inches long and the total length of the knife is aprox. 12.5 inches. The sheath has the two small standard pouchs with the Silva compass in one PLUS I AM INCLUDING THE LONG POUCH THAT WAS AN OPTION TO PURCHASE SEPERATELY AT THE TIME. Both knife and sheath look like they just came from the factory. The box is shelf worn but fully intact. Includes all the original paperwork.

Here are the images from the auction:

Special thanks to grizgolf for allowing me to share his knife here and on Buck-184.com!

I bought one of these optional pouches about fifteen or years ago or so for a Buckmaster I owned. I think it is the one the webmaster bought back in March of this year - see my other posting to him. It was ordered from Buck and I used it to attach a small plastic handle Buck folder. In retrospect though, the one I ordered looked just like this and the one in his pictures does not. Maybe his isn't the one my ex-wife abscounded with after all!

On second thought, maybe this is the one! What do you want for it, assuming that at the right price it could be had?

Just for what it's worth, a Buckmaster 184 I obtained on Ebay years ago also came with two small pouches and the extra long one. Not the auction pictured above but an equally nice knife. Maybe that was a package deal at one time from Buck.

Okay, okay...I have had this thought for a long time. This knife looks really cool, but, WHAT IS IT'S PURPOSE??? Is it a survival knife? A boat anchor? What are the reason's for it's design?

Man... you need to check out a couple of my other websites...

http://www.buck-184.com

and

http://www.m9bayonet.com

This is the peak of the peak of the "Rambo" style survival knife and the direct parent of the M9 Bayonet!

Man, that is a sharp knife...ouch...that pun was not intended, bad, but not intended.

I have seen several of these around at gunshows, but never really paid them that much attention. Most have always been mixed in w/ the impport junk, so I never really paid much attention to them. Are there many knock-offs? Or should most be the real deal?

I will definately have to check one out the next time I see one.

I bought one of these alternative pouches about fifteen or years ago or so for a blademaster I endemic. I anticipate it is the one the webmaster bought aback in advance of this year - see my added announcement to him. It was ordered from blade and I acclimated it to attach a baby artificial handle blade binder. In hindsight admitting, the one I ordered looked just like this and the one in his pictures does not. Maybe his isn't the one my ex-wife abscounded with afterwards all!
