I saw this thread a few days ago an ordered some #12 and #10 drive bolts. I just got the #12 bolts today in the mail. The heads of the #12 bolts are A LOT larger than the heads of rivets. I'll let you guys know about the #10 bolts when I get them.

I am planning using them on the lower rear trunnion of a Bulgy SF build. Looks like these will do the trick.

Just got some 8s and they measure favorably in diameter to the rivets in the Tapco kit. Heads look about right too.

I just drilled a 9/64 hole into 1/8 piece of hard steel and drove a 1/8x 3/8 u tyoe drive screw into it to test the holdign power. It will never come out that I can see. I will use the 1/8 X1/4 to build for real. Wow! what a hold it has on that steel.

I am sorry to say that after some further experimenting I have decided not to use the drive screws to build with. I am not so sure they will hold as well as I first thought. My original motive was the same as most, tryingto avoid the barrel pin problem. I solved it in a way by simply drilling it out and replacing it. It is much easier and I stll have the good feeling of strength that mashing those rivets gives me.

I like the pictures you made. You did a great job. How many have you done this way now? No problems with them backing out?

Not yet but I hope to soon... I have to work this weekend but I have some of these screws to try... As long as the fit is tight I am confident they should hold.

Now, I will be pulling my barrel as one hole drilled too deep and messing up a barrel is too many... and I have never done that yet! It takes 2-minutes to pull a barrel so why risk it.

I agree. As long as the pin problem does not create to much trouble.

That should help. My worry was when I used them to put some angle togetheras a test. It seemed like they loosened up to easy and might come apart. I was all excited about it before then.
