With bullets in this caliber getting pretty heavy ( 75Amax,80 SMK, 90smk even some 100's out there) what do you think the effectivness of a .22 whisper would work out to with say a 6 twist barrel?

With the huge 80-gr bullets I havd wondered what it would take to get a 221 fireball or perhaps something smaller like a 22 Hornet to shoot subsonic. It would require a custom chamber but a Bolt gun with a proper chamber and an 80-gr or the heviest bullet we can get out of 1:7 twist barrel should do the job.
The problem is the terminal energy would not be all that impressive and a subsonic 9mm would work better... I personally think that it would only be useful as a technical challange and if I was to spend that much money on a challange I would work on something more useful.

My first silencer years ago was a 22 long rifle but i wasn't happy with the standard 40gr bullet, yes i know they make 60gr but what i liked about the 22 hornet was i could reload it and have control over what bullets and powders i used. I used a Ruger 77/22 hornet and replaced the barrel with a 1/7 twist and sleeved it and built a intergraded silencer. I didn't play with the throat any for my length was dictated to me given the fact this rifle uses a magazine. I shoot 75gr, 77gr and 80gr bullets at 1050FPS and get alot more energy and with these longer bullets i get more of a yawing effect (tumble on impact).
