I saw an article from Sinclair about a new 175 grain Berger bullet and thought "Hey, maybe someone is doing to the 175's what has been done to the 155's for a higher BC!" It only has a BC of .510 though, and the main purpose is that it can be loaded to magazine length. Actually I'm not sure why they designed this bullet. I have no interest in Berger bullets, but thought some may be interested:

LE should not be using 175 grain 308 anyway - they are long range military and competition bullets. If you know you will never shoot far (and LE never shoots far), you can control penetration easier with a design that has lower sectional density.
But LE does seem to want to use match bullets for some reason. Probably to act like military snipers.

The new Berger 175 is designed for mag fed rifles which are being used more and more at tactical type matches. And I bet they might be hoping for a military contract. If they could get in on the M-118LR deal they would be in real good shape.
For F-Class T/R I use the Berger 185s. Good bullet.
For shooting steel from 400-850 yards I use the Lapua 155 or Sierra 175.

My latest .308 load for up to 500 yards is a 155 Sierra (2156). They shoot well and have a fairly high BC. Honestly it wouldn't matter which bullet I was shooting, my limit is still my own terrible shooting ability, coupled with the fact that I can't see my hits on paper through my 10x scope past 200 yards or so.
