I keep crushing my case necks when I go to seat a bullet. I have been using 220gr Pro Hunters(flat base) and it only happend a time or 2. Now that I have started loading 180gr speers, which are boat tail it is happening alot more. I use only LC brass. Redding dies. Giruard case trimmer. It almost seems like the the chamfer is too sharp and cutting in to the copper jacket. Anyone had this problem?

Are you using fire formed brass or is this newly converted .300/WTF?

What is the inside diameter of the necks before seating? As you mentioned, if there is insufficient chamfer on the case necks they can grab and/or dig into the bullet itself.

I had this happen when I started reloading 300 Whisper. I had to extend the resizing die's decapping pin more than normal. The problem was the expander ball was in the case neck while the case was being resized. By dropping the decapping pin and expander ball everything worked as normal.

It happens when I seat bullets not while sizing

Try lowering the die as far as it will go in the press without the seating stem in place.

Put a loaded round in the shellholder and rise it into the die. Then put the seating stem in until it just makes light contact with the bullet.

This should allow the bullet to be a little better supported/guided by the die when seating.

...Another reason why I like Redding and Forster micrometer competition seat dies.

If that dosn't work, try belling the case mouth before seating then close it back up with a crimp. Not really crimping just closing it back up.
