I've been eager to start a .300/WTF on a bolt gun for quite some time but been mulling over the base platform. I was hoping that Remington would start a factory production run of the BlackOut but after several requests for information the replies were less than helpful.

Mainly based on superstition and religious preference I've settled in on a Remington 700 action. (It's what I know and love as well as have plenty of spare parts); That coupled with the fact that they're now offering a $75 mail in rebate on the purchase of an SPS Varmint:

My question now becomes, how frequently are extraction issues seen with .223 bolthead configurations in .223 and .204 or is it worth trying to track down and purchase one in a .17 Fireball?

Use a Sako or M-16 extractor and you should be fine.

How much is the retro fit of a Sako or AR extractor to a 700 bolt?

If you're wanting a pre-fit barrel, you might give these guys a call:

I picked up 3 Stevens 200's on sale for $179.99 each for custom builds. If you can still find them for that at your local Academy, that would be my first choice, especially considering how easy they are to work on (Savage 10/110 action).

.....more than the cost of a new PTG bolt body with the Sako cut already milled in place... with the added benefit of being able to spec the correct diameter for the factory raceway.

If you want to see something funny... watch the rear of a factory Remington bolt when you place it into battery.
