I am just curious as I have seen Red Dot loads in Bolt Actions, but wanted to know if anyone has worked some up with Tite Group. I would be using either 175 Grain or 150 Grain bullets.

If used in an auto, did it cycle the action?

I can almost guarantee you that it will not cycle an AR action. The volatility of TiteGroup and RedDot are very similar.

That being said, Hodgdon now lists TiteGroup as a powder for subsonic loads for .308's using a 168 gn HPBT. This leads me to believe that they are not concerned about load density with this powder, as the recommended 8 grains of TiteGroup in a .308 is only slightly greater than ~20% load density.

Looking to QuickLoad in a mock-up, a .300-221 using TiteGroup; 6 grains should put you within a safe chamber pressure but also with enough muzzle velocity not to have to worry about a squib load.

The following is pertinent load data:
Case length (trim to): 1.355"
Hornady FMJ BT: 150 grain; 1.082"
COL: 2.075"
TiteGroup: 6 grain
Approximate Load density: ~45%

If you do put this round together for a bolt gun, please keep me/us informed about the accuracy. I'm concerned with such a high ballistic efficiency that accuracy may suffer from complete powder burn so early in the barrel and the bullet 'skidding' to the muzzle. I have however seen pretty good results from the mentioned .308 load, so I'm very curious.

I saw the same thing in the Hodgdon manual and they have loads for .223 that are subsonic. I started the topic because I load all my handgun stuff with TiteGroup so I have it on-hand.

Regarding load density, most of the loads I have in my handguns are often 50% or less, especially when you get into the 45 Long Colt and the like.

Thanks for the info!

I used 4.5 gr of TiteGroup in mixed pedigree brass (LC, FC, Win, Rem) and a Magtech 71/2 SR primer to push a 150 gr FMJBT (by Golden West Brass) out of my 16 inch Howa bolt gun. Used a moderate Lee FCD crimp on 'em too. They averaged ~1030 fps and gave me ~2 moa accuracy. Cheap little plinkers and very quiet. They will not cycle in my Whisper AR.
