300 Blackout/300 Whisper Reloading

I would like to know if I decided to go over to the 300 Blackout, will my 300 Whisper Brass and Dies be the same? Where would I find 300 Blackout Load Data and infromation?

From everything the companies are puting in there it will open .004, shoulder the same, slightly longer throat, could shoot whisper in BLK. but not vise versa due to more free bore and would cause high pressure. Noveske barrels are compatable - check out web site. Also check out conversion to 300 BLK reamer on this website... Hope this helps

I do not know what the problem is but I have tried everyting I can think of and much more with the suggestions from this forum. Just can get it to shoot under 3" at 100 yards.
The manufactorer is not much help as everytime I correspond with him......Its always something I am doing wrong that makes it not function properly.

I thought it was an accuracy issue not a function issue.

Function was never a issue, accuracy at 100 yards is. Never had it group less than 3". Never use a chrono. Tried a lot of other suggestions like powders,coal, bulletts. Factory Corbon 220gr ammo..........SAME RESULTS. That is why I was contemplating giving up with the Whisper and trying the Blackout. I am open to other suggestions.

Have you tried having someone else try shooting groups with it?

I would invest in a chronograph if you are going to play with reloading subsonics. They can tell you a lot about what your bullets are doing.

go back to basics. start with checking your mounts and scope rings make sure they are secure. then I would try a supersonic load that has proven to be accurate. Then I would make sure I had a very good steady rest , sandbag if you can..what action AR you using? what barrel?

Based on the 6 bbls I've been testing (4 300AAC and 2 300 Whisper chambered) the Whisper chamber is more accurate with supersonic loads because the BLACKOUT has a much larger and longer throat area to accomodate more fouling build-up from suppressed firing. I can see no obvious difference in pressure signs between the two chambers. Ammo loaded using Redding 300/221 dies and Forester 300 BLACKOUT dies both work just fine in either chamber.

Bolt and SS - neither has any fouling difference between max and sub loads. Very clean. You talking AR?

If I had any idea what you had tried to do to fix the problem I might be interested.

Try replacing the trigger! I installed a RRA 2-stage match trigger in my 300 Fireball. Cut my 100 yard groups in half! I'm shooting 1" - 1.5" groups all day long. Was 3-4"! Cost me $110.00, money well spent!

I installed a TUBBS carrier weight and enedine hydraulic buffer. This slows the function of my over gassed, pistol length 16" upper. I only shoot heavy's for sub stuff. This combo helped my groups.

Does your set up cycle with the Tubbs weights added? and the Enidine buffer? What loads are you putting through the rifle? Wondering if that would work on a 10.5" with pistol gas set up. Thanks.

Yes, I am using both the carrier weight and hydraulic buffer. My carbine is a pistol length gas system 16" barreled upper. It cycles unsuppressed with 220,240 matchkings,225 outlaws,240 outlaws, using nv-110 and h-110. I believe this set up also helps feeding the outlaws from a unaltered GI mag. I did preform a little ramping to the barrel extension, though nothing major.

This load is touching the rifling in my upper, and I'm pushing it with 9.4gr of VN-110 and FED small Rifle match primer, Winchester brass.
The land between feed ramps, was taken down with a dremel tool, following the same angle of the feed ramps. I find that if you take it slow not that much material needs to be removed. I also nocked down the sharp outer edges of the feed ramps with some small diamond files, purchased from Harbor Freight. Finally I filed in some M-4 feed ramps into my upper receiver this one did not have them, and a little polishing dosn't hurt. Runs Smooth and Reliable!!!

As I uderstand it, the Blackout is better for the 220 and 240gr sub loads, were as the Whisper's shorter throat is better suited for 125 gr. super sonics...

So since Im currently building an AR with one of Tp555'S .300/.221 barrels, I was thinking about building a bolt gun for subs later this year.

My question is, can I get away with using the Blackout dies for both? Or will there be issues with the throat length and the crimping? Im asking cause I have yet to buy my dies and will be needing to start some loads up here in a few weeks hopefully.

The BLACKOUT throat is why it can have higher velocity with 125 grain bullets.

Likewise, that is why 6.8 SPC-II can be faster than 6.8 and 5.56mm can be faster than 223 - even with short/light bullets.

I dont care for the 240s. Waaaay more expensive and finicky when it comes to good loads.

I have put over 600-700 240s through my bolt gun and auto, both 8 twist Lilja barrels, with no stability problems. But I am at 5,000-7,500 feet. If they were marginal, they might not work at sea level.

After I burn up the last of my 240s I will just shoot the 220s and 175s from now on.

Have been shooting some 240's from Clearwater Custom with no problems. But they are not near as long. Some like them for tumbling effect, I prefer a nice fat nose after impact for a good blood trail. Has anybody here used a 26" or 28" barrel, and how did it sound?
