I was looking at the M9s on EBAY again and I found this knife interesting. Note how the following knife has the Patent Pending markings while this silver version of the knife from the same year (http://www.m9bayonet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11) does not. Note this is a factor of when it was made NOT that silver blades lack the marking!
Here is a link to the auction (http://www.qksrv.net/click-1113488-5463217?loc=http%3A//cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D6512043373)
Here is the description:
Quote:This is a near new Buck model 188 m9 bayonet with the box. This has the black blade is stamped Buck 188 U.S.A. > in 3 lines on the one side and M9 PHROBIS U.S.A. PAT. PEND. in 4 lines on the other side. This has the sharpening stone on the back but no pouches included.
This is one of the early Buck M9s as defined by the 1987 date code but a late 1987 due to the Patent Pending Marks. Also note the duel markings of Buck/Phrobis, which indicates this is a civilian version as opposed to a USGI Issue M9 bayonet. Military bayonets of the same erra would not have the Buck markings.
Following are some photos of this knife from the auction:
