They will definately lay a deer down. Youth hunt, two shots at 40 yds, 2 deer down. One ran 10 yds and the other was a high in the shoulder. DRT. Both completely penetrated with nickel size exit. Subsonic...

Both were too slow, less than 900fps. Here is the gun:

Maybe I'm confused, but I don't see any 30 caliber bullets for sale on the Lehigh Site. Is this not the 300 Whipser forum?

Here's the link to the Lehigh .308 bullets:

The controlled fracturing subsonic with a .17 payload bullet for enhanced fracturing looks very interesting for maximizing subsonic takedown damage.

I'd start @ 8grs of H-110 and tickle it from there....even though its not my favorite powder:smile:

V V N -110 for now.
I'm experimenting with something much faster (and quieter)...too little data for the 300 just now.

Interesting
I wonder how well they shoot and expand.
Luckily my rifle can cycle 168-175s without any issues.
I'm not so sure these would feed from a mag very well though.

I have loaded and shot over 100 of the 308 subsonic with a 20 gr. Berger .17 in the cavity and have had good success on deer.
I was able to locate 3 of the recoverable bullets this season and have included a picture (with the penny for size reference) as you can see, one shed all 3 petals and the other 2 lost 3 of the 4.
My loads were over 8.6gr. Lil'Gun with Magnum Small Rifle primers-CCI.
All were shot in a bolt action with 16 1/2' heavy barrel and suppressor.
The velocity is borderline sub/supersonic as one in 3 will crack the sound barrier but accuracy is so good that I live with it.
Does not seem to spook the deer though I must say we have large numbers of stupid deer around here.

So, are these a no-no in a AR? Sight says bolt action or SS.

Your not confused they list .308 dia bullet now. You install a .172" bullet as a payload in the front of them.
