Hello all, pretty new to these forums and hope to stick around for awhile. I am trying to locate a 1:8 16-18" Threaded TC Encore barrel and can't seem to come up with anything. I have found them at Midway and EABCO but their's is 1:10 twist and I would mainly be shooting 220-240 SMK's for subsonic use and from everyhting I have read that 1:8 is the twist I am looking for. I am looking to reload 223 brass so I figured SSK's barrels won't work either, Correct? If anyone knows where I can find this barrel relatively quickly (meaning better than the 12-16 week lead time from EABCO, rediculous) I would appreciate any help I can get.
And please, If anyone thinks I going down the wrong track please feel free to steer me in the right direction!!
Thank you all,
John

welcome: to geybeard and good luck with your soon to be chosen whisper. Its my favorite plinker and suburban deer caliber now.
SSK Barrels shoot .223 brass turned into 300 whisper just fine. At least in mine they do. Also shoot just fine thru my Thompson Custom shop barrel and we all know Thompson Center was the only barrel maker that JD Jones allowed to License his 300 whisper so in practice, the chamber of a Thompson barrel and the SSK barrels are the same. The barrels have different twist rates though. I am getting my new 24 inch encore barrel from SSK this week. Since I have five hundred new 300 whisper brass made by Hoser here on greybeard,,,,,I sure hope they will work and am certain that they will.

Yep - my SSK barrel shoots .223 & 5.56 brass just fine.
In fact, when CorBon first started making factory .300 Whisper (licensed through SSK, so I would assume it's to their spec, and would fit their chambers) they used Lake City 5.56 brass.
