The tone of Socom is very similar to the cyclone. It is quieter than a unsuppressed subsonic.22lr or the 308/cyclone shooting supersonic, but just. The tone is lower. The gun balances and handles very well. Leupold finally agreed to put a subsonic reticle in the scope. It's setup for a 125yd zero with a dot for 150,175,200. Hopefully I'll get some real shooting in tomorrow. Come on deer season.

AC, If we had a "Subsonic Hall of Fame" that Socom would be in it. Nice work!
Load data would be appreciated if you get a chance?

My comments the same as above. Sickness is stopping me from taking my 500 grain loads out for field testing. When I do we will be comparing notes I'm sure.
I am very impressed by the SOCOM!

I like how you machined the hand guard to give full access to the gas port. What kind of hand guard is it and do you have any regrets about machining it?
Thanks for the info

It's a YHM hand guard. I wanted to be able to reach the gas block easily so some cutting was going to be necessary, but the gas block simply would not fit under the guard. I don't regret it. There 's plenty of rail space left. I like the grip of a 4 rail better than a round tube and cutting a round tube would not look as good. The only thing I put on it is a brass catcher.

The suppressor is an Elite Iron.
10" x 1.2" and has a .51 bore.
I've talked about it for almost 2 years so sometimes I forget that everyone on the Internet doesn't know about it.

Thanks. 21.5 grs of VV N110 and a 530gr Outlaw State bullet. I hunted with this load last year and It's shocking on deer. I also shoot a 480 Hawk with 20.0 grs of VV N110 for "plinking". The 530 runs 1030 to 1040 and the 480 runs about 1050.

Well I demand to come second in the competition for SOCOM attractiveness (and first in the Bolt Gun category).

Yes you are second rikky, but wait till I join the competition and you might be reclassed as number 3 :-) (got a phone call from my gunsmith last week:-)
By the way you might be disqualified if you do not fit a sexy supressor on that fat barrel soon!

How about a first in each category? One for bolt actions and one for autoloaders?

Rem 700 SA on AICS 1.0.
Action trued and BR trigger. NXS 22x MLR.
1/14 twist Douglas no turn barrel taken down to 0.9inch diameter. 18 inches long.
Loads per separate postings (and still being developed).
Nice rig!
May I ask what buffer and spring you are running?
Do you find that you use the Paladin gas block's adjustment?
(I don't want to steal your thread or bore you with the details, but I have a much uglier suppressed RRA with a Paladin that I am having trouble getting to reliably cycle with very similar loads.)
Thanks.

Well the shooting session was a wash. I shot 3 shot groups with the 308/cyclone. After 10 different groups at 200 yards, I averaged 0.623. I'm absolutely thrilled with the Savage. The Socom started shooting terrible groups and not locking back on the last round. I changed from a heavy spring and light buffer to a standard spring and a hydraulic buffer. That fixed the lock back and rough brass, but not the groups. Today I shot at 50 with and without the suppressor. With = 4" Without = a cloverleaf with all bullets touching. I'm Going to try some different powders and check the speed on every thing.
