Can you guys recommend a bullet that would be a less expensive option for plinking with an AR. Do the 180RN bullets work in an AR platform?
I have been shooting SMKs and 208 Amaxes but it gets pricy :)
I'd like to load up a few hundred of rounds for just showing the platform off to buddies etc.

The cheepest will be cast bullets. So long as you can take your suppressor apart for cleaning you are good to go.

The El Cheapo 175s from Wideners work pretty good and you can keep them subsonic.
Accuracy is crap compared to decent bullets, but fun for plinking.

If they will work in your mags, speer 180gr "hotcor" round nose work for me with good accuracy, they also have 190 and 200 but they are hard to find.

+3 on the Wideners 175s for cheap fun but I found them to be way inconsitent in ogive measurements.
I recently got some bulk packed 175 SMKs for only like $25-30 more than the Wideners and they are much better.
It's funny how many new shooters or first timers always say something like, "Your rifle is shooting to the right".
Umm, the shooter is shooting to the right.

If you can find a plinking load for the M2 147 gr. bullets, then you are good to go. You can find these for $65-$75/500 online.
7.5 grains of 2400 in Lake City brass with the CCI 400 primer works fine in my AR and is subsonic.

http://www.hi-techammo.com/ currently has some 147s listed at $58/500 or $320/3000.
I bought a couple thousand a while ago, and I was able to get them to cycle at subsonic velocities in my 16" Noveske barrel using AA1680.
I thought it was a little loud though. I'm going to try a faster powder and see if I can still get it to cycle.

I wonder how bad the pull marks are.
I should try some of the 147s I have with my powder to see if I can get them to cycle subsonically.

I'm using 4.5 gr of Hodgdon Titegroup with a Golden West 150 gr FMJ in a bolt gun. I plan on trying it out in a short-barrel Whisper AR soon (gotta finish building it first). Hope it'll work. It is extremely quiet in my 16 inch bolt gun.

I bought some 175s from Polygunbag.com and loaded them ahead of 9.7gr of H110. The shoot very nicely. $80 for 500.

I picked some of these up too! They are actually pulled Sierra Matchkings from M118LR ammo.
Better than the PRVI in the accuracy department.
You will see some that have slight pull marks, but nothing that is going to throw off accuracy like deep gouges or indentations.
