Wow: What a country.

Hi guys. I'm new, but have always been fascinated by knives. Thanks to my son in the Army and over in Iraq, I am now the proud owner of a knife and scabbard (with a wire cutter in it of course). I would like help in identifying it.
It looks a lot like an M9 with the serrated edge on top, but appears to have a red/brown plastic handle. It has a serial number on it of MP 9046. Can anyone help with an ID?

Based on the two letters and 4-digit serial number I'd say there's a very good chance that you have a Romanian AKM bayonet. Iraq purchased a huge number of them and the majority of bayonets you see coming back from there are Romanian.

wowsers. That was excellent. Attached find a jpg of the knife. Any possibility I could remove the handle and put parts on it more american? Is is a "knockoff"?

You have a nice Romanian AKM bayonet with genuine Iraqi markings on it. The handle won't come off unless you cut it off, and you would not be able to attach any US parts to it. I suggest you leave it as-is. If you want something that looks like a US bayonet, there are many used M9 bayonets available for reasonable prices.
