OK guys,
I need some advice. I want to do a SBR whisper so my grandson (who is now 2 years old) can shoot a deer. The ar is a perfect platform because of the stock and .300 whisper works well. I have an AAC cyclone already. I figure I'll wait long enough for the SBR approval for him to get old enough to hunt with me!! What's the best route to go? Which lower, which upper, who does the best work? I also have an old 'EA' complete lower but I think it's cast not forged?... I'm a bolt gun guy and have a Rem 700 whisper with a 16 inch bbl, but need ideas on an AR gun... I'd like to do it right the first time.

as far as lowers go .. just buy any current mfgr lower and be done with it. For the most part they are all good (I stay away from Oly). DSA has complete lowers for $180 which is a deal.

as far as uppers .. I'd say contact a competent smith and have him build what you want!

I'm very happy with AGP's lower and will buy more.

As for a smith, he better be able to build from a blank cause I can't find "drop in" barrels anywhere!!

As stated just about any lower will work fine. Since it is for a juvenile I'd suggest a collapsible stock (a basic M4 stock works great but there are lots of other options out there) and a stock fire control group. At the ranges you will be shooting deer with a Whisper you don't need a match trigger unless that is just something you want.

I only have 1 300/221 barrel, a Noveske. They make very good barrels and I'm happy with mine. Just make sure the gas port is in the pistol position so it will cycle subsonics and everything else is just standard AR. Other than SSK I'm not sure who makes complete uppers but if you haven't built an AR before you should try it, they are an easy platform to get into.
