Lan Cay M11 or Ontario M10 bayonet?

Howdy again, I have a question for you guys.

When Lan-Cay and Ontario Knife Co both came up with "new" versions of the M9, they produced the M11 and M10.

Here's the M10

So I'm curious, what's the advantages of their updates? Is the M10 by Ontario Knife co anything more than an M9 with the "Ergonomic grip" and a different colour and pattern?

The Lan-Cay M11 seems to have a rounder grip, no bayonet hole, and a different base.

So what's the go with these models? Are either of them worth getting? I can find a Lan-Cay one nice and cheap but the M10 seems to be a bit more expensive.

I don't have a great knowledge of the Ontario M10 and Lan-Cay M11, so you'll better wait some more answers.
Anyway, I believe the main difference between the "standard" M9 bayonet and the Ontario M10 is (apart from the blade markings and the handle you mentioned) the scabbard configuration. The "loops" at the end were removed and the back weebing was modified.

The Lan-Cay M11 is just not a bayonet at all, but an EOD tool (knife, in fact).
I personally wouldn't consider the Lan-Cay EOD an improvement, as it was just a different configuration of the M9 bayonet.

Ah yeah, that makes sense.

Also, why is Ontario Knife Co using this new finish on their M10?

I have an Ontario M9 and M7. The M9 has a smooth dull black finish much like the Lan-Cay M9s.

The M7 has this "sandstone" finish, or the finish looks entirely like the knife was made from a dark sharpening stone. It marks like crazy when it goes in or out of the scabbard and it appears the M10 suffers the same thing. What's so special about this finish that the previous typical M9 finish couldn't achieve?

the finish is for corrosion resistance not pretty, these are tools and I doubt they really worry that they mark up and prefer that they dont corrode or reflect light, no matt finish is going to stay mark free easily.

The M10 is not a military designation as the Military M10 is the plastic sheath for the M7 bayonet, its purely commercial

I'm going to be purchasing an M10 and an M11 next month as well as the entire Lan-Cay colour collection. M9, M9LW, M11, M11LW in all available colours. It's quite a bit but I really have nothing else to collect, plus I love the variety and it'll make one heck of a photo when it's done.

I find it also interesting how it is supposed to be corrosive-resistant yet the M9 and M7 I have here (M9 from Lan-Cay and M7 from Ontario Knife co) both are rusting up something fierce and I've only had them two months.).

Why don't you collect the Buck/Phrobis also? There are many nice pieces for sale on ebay.
As for the corrosion coating, I have the impression that the finish used on the Buck/Phrobis M9s is much better than the one on the Lan-Cay or Ontario's.

I do prefer the grey finish on Phrobis/Buck M9s than the black sandstone look.

I have one Phrobis at the moment, and a Buckmaster 184 of some sort (possibly a clone), I will post photos when I return home.

At the moment I have three more Lan-Cays on the way. M9 in white, black and OD.

If you go for all models and colours and blade etches then you are looking at about 80 bayonets as there are around 50+ colour and marking combinations in the M9 alone, 10 colours 4 etches plus plain and clear, then 10 colours for each of the 9LW, 11 and 11LW, be a big parcel and a huge picture I have all the etches and most of the colours (still need blue and clear) and that makes about 12 Lan Cay commercials, just need an 11LW. You will have some problems as not all colours are now available from my understanding, and of course some colour/marking combiantions woudl be more than a little iffy, but go for it I cant wait to see the pictures, hope they will give a decent discount for a nearly $10K order.

That's a lot. I can't wait to get it all finished. I have 6 M9s so far.

The reason why I want to collect them? I have no bloody clue. I just wanted to be one of those guys who shows off one of those ridiculous collections that make you wonder "how'd he find the time and money for all that!?"

Whoops I forgot the two handle variations as well, you've not included the etched blade variations, and I show 10 colors and clear. Why woudl the LW come in both grip configurations they were not introduced till after the grip change? but then since you can buy all the parts seperatly you an make up any combinatiopn you want so the numbers go to over 160, that will be some collection. As to why do it, collectors dont need a reason we just do!

I'm also eager to get one of Lan-Cays parachute survival packs. It also comes with a small pocket knife.
