I am wanting to try Blue Dot with the Horn 220gr RN this weekend. Anyone have a load for it. I will be using a 10.5" with a pistol gas position. I just worked a load of Unique 6.8grs @ 950fps. Shoots good, but at top pressures and I want a little more velocity.

Blue dot has a wicked pressure curve. I wouldnt touch that stuff now days. There is better options.

According to quickload, 8.0g of Blue Dot should push it to 1100fps from the 10.5" & pressure should only be 27,000psi, but should burn all powder in about 7" of the barrel & fill 60% of the case. Depends on the seat depth, though - I used 2.30" COL
Sounds great if it will cycle the action - with the pistol-length gas I would think it is likely, especially if the faster Unique is already cycling it.

Thanks, Peglegreg, I worked up to 8.5gr Blue dot and it went Super-Sonic with rounded primers and cycling. Maybe tomorrow I can chrono. What does your Quickload Program show for Win 296. That is nice haveing a program like that. Saves some time and expense. Thanks Eddie

I have to agree with dksd - I fooled around with 110/296/AA#5/AA#7 and LilGun is the one to use.
I have blown out primers on what were supposed to be subsonic rounds with 110-highly doubtful that they were overcharged as I single load each round and measure powder with Lyman electronic scale that is double weighed on my old RCBS balance beam-each round!
If you do that twice you stop using 110 and I found that LilGun gave excellent accuracy, consistent ED and SD.
It is all I use now for subsonic work with bullets from 165 to 240 gr.

Gary,
Will LilGun cycle a AR15 with carbine gas tube?
thanks,

Lil gun work great for everything I have tried. When I run out of 296 and VV-N110, it will my sole 300W powder. You can start with H110 data, and I can usually get about 8% more powder at max. Velocity is great.
I have a pistol position gas block, never tried carbine. On the burn rate chart is the next fastest powder after H110. I find its less temperamental than H110/296.

I will check at the gun show in Tyler for some Lil Gun. I have 1 1/2 lb. of Win 296. I may use it for some super-sonic loads with some 110gr Varmint style bullets. I have figured some sub loads with clays, unique, blue dot, and Win 296, will try to get some Lil gun.
